Beautiful breakfast: Don’t skip the most important meal of the day!
We know it can be tempting to skip breakfast in exchange for a few extra minutes in bed (especially in winter when your bed is ridiculously warm and comfy!) but a nutritious breakfast is one of the essentials for a healthy and productive day. After all, breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast - that's where its name originates, breaking the fast!
So if you’re someone that regularly skips breakfast it’s time to kick the habit! A well-balanced breakfast can help keep you alert and productive throughout the day. Also, besides being a serious dose of deliciousness, a healthy breakfast helps to kick-start your metabolism helping you burn calories, fuel your body, enhance your mood, improve your concentration, maintain a healthy weight, and is the foundation of a balanced diet.
Most importantly, eating a healthy breakfast leads to better food choices for the rest of your meals and sets you up for the day. Missing breakfast often leads to overeating later in the day, usually snacking on unhealthy foods. You may also become over hungry mid-morning and when lunch time comes around you may end up eating twice as much than if you had eaten breakfast to begin with.
The great thing about breakfast is there are so many common breakfast foods that can be considered super-foods because of their nutritional value like eggs and whole grains. In addition to providing us with energy, breakfast foods are a good source of important nutrients such as calcium, folate, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre. The body needs these essential nutrients and if they are missed at breakfast, they are less likely to be consumed later in the day.
Even if you are short on time in the morning or not too hungry, it’s important not to miss the most important meal of the day. Wake up a littler earlier or even prep your breakfast the night before.
